Every week Richard Kern invites us to his L.E.S. apartment where we go through a huge box of archival photographs from his long and checkered career. Today’s featured model is Katie, shot in the early 90s.VICE: She looks like the girl from The Exorcist.
Richard: Yeah, this was a funny shot. This was ’93 or ’94, sometime around then. I shot a ton of her in action. She got religion later and denies all this stuff, but she shot a lot for sex mags. She did girl-girl stuff, I don’t think she did guy stuff. I saw a video of her made by a guy I knew who got rich during the porno boom by putting ads in the paper saying, “Girls wanted for masturbation video.” The location was way out in New Jersey, and he was offering 200 bucks. Girls would show up and he would say, “No, it’s not you masturbating, it’s me masturbating, on your face.” It was called “Exploited Teens,” that’s the website. He’d say, “I’m sorry, if you don’t want to do it, that’s OK. I’ll see you around.” Most of them would say, “Well, I came out here, I might as well get my 200 dollars.” And then he’d do it. And that was one of the first things she did before I met her. So that was a big thrill for me to see.Wow. That’s pretty sleazy.
The guy went from managing a pizza place to being a millionaire in about six months. It was before porn was free. He just got super wealthy, his life completely changed. He ended up doing shoots where he fucked them, and then the girls got a bit more professional. I think his site’s still around, but it’s really twisted. The site would say, “They thought they were just coming to do something, the dumb bitches!” No morals. This guy had a wife and I asked, “What does your wife think?” And he said, “Well, she doesn’t want to know, and she likes the money and she doesn’t care where I get it. She loves the money. She doesn’t want to hear anything about my private life.” He would go on trips where he’d shoot three or four girls in a day.
