Morning of the Magicians

Unless you’re religious, a terrorist, or both—a conservative—serious galvanization among “your people” when it comes to bonding over the intangibles of human existence is no small task. Group sports or your band is a good temporary outlet, though what about those of us who aren’t aggressive or competitive? What about those of us who just want to talk about life, love, science, art, alchemy, consciousness, and miscellaneous esoteric stuff that’s anywhere between internal and extra-terrestrial, who want to enjoy the benefits of a community without having to live together as brainwashed hippies or follow some kind of dogma that ultimately drains our power as individuals?

For lots of people in Los Angeles, White Witch Maja D’Aoust has served as this central force for the last few years. Through her public lectures, called Magic Class, and general counsel in various forms of oracle (including tarot, astrology, friendship, her own books, even writing for VICE, etc.), she’s gathered a ragtag bunch of people into a family, and given them—us, even you, if you want to show up—the green light and reason to openly talk about the tools of magic without feeling like such a woo-woo freak.

Most of these LA folk chewing the fat of the megacosm’s belly are artists of some sort. (You might be surprised by who shows up sometimes.) And they’ve decided it’s time a bunch of ‘em as possible came together to celebrate the community that’s formed, and to document this moment in Los Angeles history. Hence tonight's Morning of the Magicians, an extravaganza of creators including Guy Blakeslee (of Entrance Band), White Magic, Jeffertiti’s Nile, , the Silver Chords, Featherbeard, a cymatics sideshow of sorts by Ron Regé Jr., and a full-on Spring Astara Ritual led by Maja. Plus DJs and astral projections and general esoteric glam freakiness. All of it’s going into a compilation recording for posterity's star children.
