What to say about Richard Kern? He's an underground photographer, a filmmaker, and one of VICE's earliest inspirations. He lived through the East Village 80s and made music videos for Sonic Youth and Marilyn Manson. He's immortalised amateur models from all over the world, mentored Petra Collins, and shot for as many porno mags as he has art books.Back in 2007 and 2008, Kern headlined our annual VICE photo issues. It was a different time…American Apparel was still in business, and Brooklyn hadn't quite gentrified yet. To, uh, wet your appetite for Shot By Kern, our documentary about his life and work, here are some of our favourite Kern polaroids from that period.
