Fox Sports Condemns Sideline Reporter Emily Austen's Racist Barstool Rant

Barstool Sports often sounds like the writing on the bathroom wall—and yesterday was no exception.

On Thursday, Barstool Sports broadcast a Facebook Live feed of a discussion with Fox Sports Tampa Bay Rays and Orlando Magic sideline reporter Emily Austen, in which she made a string of insensitive and downright racist comments.

Austen started off by calling Cavs forward Kevin Love, who is currently out suffering a concussion, a "little bitch" (11:14)—an opinion that various players been critical of—only to backtrack and say, "I'm not saying he's a little bitch because he didn't play because he had a concussion—because he can't play." Close enough call, right?

Around 24:46, Austen chimes in on the group discussion about the Mexico City–born high school graduate who announced her undocumented status in her graduation speech to say, "I didn't even know that Mexicans were that smart," only to backpedal again and say, "I know that's fucked up—I didn't mean it like that, but I'm just… you see, like—you guys know that the Chinese guy is always the smartest guy in math class." To which one of the hosts sarcastically says, "That's a good point," rightfully calling her out for backing out of one stereotype with another one. And then Austen veered to the inevitable "I love all people."

There's more. Austen went on to take the hosts' bait, "Jews: kind of a little stingy?" by saying, "Yeah, I went to school in Boca, so I know most of that—the way I used to talk to Jews in Boca, they hated—because I was a server, and I just didn't care and they would complain and bitch about everything. I gave a guy a beer, and he was complaining to me that there was too much head and I knew that he was a stingy asshole and that he wasn't going to give me a tip, so I go, 'So you're the first guy that's ever complained to me about too much head,'" later adding, "I got fired like two weeks later."

Seems like it might not be the last time, as Fox Sports issued a statement condemning Austen and making a point of saying that she's not scheduled for any future appearances:

We were made aware that Emily Austen appeared in a social media video unaffiliated with FOX Sports in which she made insensitive and derogatory comments. She was not speaking on behalf of FOX Sports, nor do we condone any of the statements she made in the video. Emily has been advised that her comments were unacceptable, and she is not scheduled to appear on any upcoming FOX Sports Florida or FOX Sports Sun broadcasts.

Barstool's Rundown later removed the video from their Facebook page, claiming in a post, titled "I Hope You Watched The Rundown Live Cause We Don't Have It," that "we (Hank probably) somehow deleted the video which was supposed to be edited for the actual show today." But somebody saved the video and uploaded it to Vimeo. The internet's written in ink, people.
