Western Michigan Gentleman Flirts With Disaster by Throwing Fumble Back Into Own End Zone

Western Michigan beat Northwestern by one point, 22-21. Whew!

So it's early in the season, guys. Let's just give Western Michigan's Davontae Ginwright a break, ok? Summertime is for forgetting things, and apparently, the rules of football went out the window for the man as his quick move nearly spelled disaster for his own team.

Deep in the 4th quarter, Northwestern fumbled through Western Michigan's end zone after NU's Clayton Thorson was stripped of the ball just inches away from the goal line. Awesome, a touchback, right? Well, it was then that Ginwright decided—bafflingly—to not let it go out of bounds or catch it and run it out, but rather to keep the ball in play. Ginwright sprinted for the ball, twisted, and threw it back into the field of play, where Northwestern could have very easily recovered for a touchdown.

Instead, Ginwright got super lucky, as he was on the sideline when he performed his pseudo-heroic (albeit not-great-idea-ic) athletic attempt. The refs ruled it a touchback in the long run. Western Michigan won by one point, 22-21. Whew!
