Vandals in Russia painted the star atop an old Soviet building to look like Patrick Star, best friend to the titular character of Nickelodeon's Spongebob Squarepants. Photos of the city of Voronezh's tower, augmented with starfish graffiti, surfaced early this week after appearing on photographer Vladmir Mulder's Livejournal, where he documents and denounces the artwork as emblematic of the city's "laziness." According to the government-run English-language news site The Russian Times, restoring the symbol of Soviet heritage could cost Voronezh's citizens up to 100,000 rubles ($1,500). The internet has reacted more positively, turning the graffiti into memes and suggesting the square in front of the building be painted like Spongebob to reunite the friends. By the year 3,000, everything will be painted chrome, according to Spongebob Squarepants, so none of this will matter anyway.
