COP15 – THE CLIMATE HERE SUCKS

Did you guys watch the

Dance 4 Climate Change

concert the other day? Of course you didn't. Supposedly it was being broadcast to millions of viewers in 25 countries, but damned if we know what any of those countries are. Maybe it killed in Uruguay. Here's what the actual venue looked like 15 minutes before showdown.

Part of the reason had to do with the line-up consisting of Akon, Angelique Kidjo, Shaggy, Europe, Youssou N'Dour, and a couple of never-were-Danish-relics. Oh, and Akon didn't show up. The other part had to do with the event being masterminded by the UN in collaboration with Danish promoter Amanda Ru. Orlanda (that's how she insists her name be written, period and all). Here's the chain of events that led up to it: Amanda Ru. Orlanda was offered an open-air concert at City Hall Square but, to make sure people bought the $100 tickets, she chose a closed arena with a 20,000 capacity. When the line-up was criticized for being godawful, she responded 100-percent sincerely with things like, "Europe has a very important song, 'The Final Countdown,' illustrating how we need climate change now." This all went back and forth in the press and the night of the show everything imploded. Most of the 1,500 people who showed up either got their tickets for free or at a drastically reduced price in a last-ditch effort to fill up the place. So entertainment-wise COP15 is off to an excellent start. Oh yeah, and

some cops raided a compound full of sleeping protesters and stole some guy's ladder.

Wild times as always here in Copenhagen. HENRIK SALTZSTEIN
