Watch Naked's Cheesy Pizza Inspired Video for 'Sprinters of the World Unite'

"Nescafe instant coffee tastes like prison to me."

The latest track from Hobart avant-punks Naked involves the tragic death of a pet, violent juvenile delinquency and incarceration, and shitty pizza.

Taken from the noisy three-piece’s forthcoming album Pink Quartz, "Sprinters of the World Unite" peregrinates across suburban Hobart with charismatic Kieran Sullivan telling a sorry tale while backed against some brilliant lo fi punk.

We thought the intro sounds a lot like early Guided By Voices but Kieran told us that the band don’t really listen to GBV. Oh well, check the video below and read a quick chat we had with Kieran.

Noisey: How much of the song is based on a true story?
Kieran Sullivan: None. The place where the song is set has been notorious for bricks being thrown at buses and pizza is not delivered in the area because of the perceived danger. I have been to the beach. I’ve almost been arrested a few times but never for assault.

I’ve not been to Ashley Youth Detention Centre, but my lovely mum has been a psychologist for state schools for over thirty years, and she talked about it a lot while I was growing up, so while I haven’t physically been there, I have in my heart.
I’ve been to Risdon prison, but only for visits. Nescafe instant coffee tastes like prison to me. It’s just a shit version of The Stranger by Camus.

Is Domino's the best pizza option in Hobart?
Domino’s is the worst pizza option in Hobart city but probably the best or only option in the suburbs the song is set in, since all Pizza Haven and Pizza Hut stores on the Eastern Shore closed down. The city Domino’s is the best free pizza option though – their bins are always full. The actual best cruelty free pizza options are Amici in North Hobart (order veg no cheese) and the newly opened Marcello’s.

The intro sounds like GBV. Do you have a fave GBV era/album?
I’ve had Bee Thousand on my iPod for a while but haven’t really gotten round to listening to it. The intro was meant to be a bit of a nod to Per Purpose’s “Eureka” actually. So maybe Glen is really into GBV? I’ve mostly just been listening to Bieber and Lost Animal of late.

'Pink Quartz' will be available in February through Tenth Court.
