LOADS OF PEOPLE DIED AFTER CLASHES IN EGYPT

At least 72 civilians are known to have been gunned down in Cairo by the interim government's security forces, but doctors say that the true figure is significantly higher.

The deaths came during clashes between supporters of the ousted Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi and security forces representing interim President Adly Mansour.

The majority of deaths were around the Rabaa al-Adawiya mosque in Cairo, where Morsi supporters have been protesting, but two were reported after clashes in cities north of Cairo - Kafr el-Zayat and Port Said

The government initially claimed that only tear gas, and not live rounds, had been fired, but the new foreign minister Nabil Fahmy has since said, "If you have people shooting each other on both sides then you're obviously going to have to casualties."

The interim authorities are now under huge pressure from senior figures both home and abroad to properly investigate the deaths.

Pedro Vargas, a 42-year-old Miami resident, set fire to his flat and shot dead six people in and around the building before being shot by the police.

In yet another rampage accommodated by America's relaxed attitude towards letting basically anyone possess a gun, police claim there was no clear motive and that the shootings were an "irrational act".

Vargas reportedly started off by torching about $10,000 in cash, before going on the shooting spree and taking two people hostage inside their apartment.

Negotiators made contact with Vargas, but talks fell apart and a SWAT team swarmed the apartment, killing him on site.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested after targeting a feminist campaigner on Twitter with abuse and threats of rape.

Caroline Criado-Perez had been campaigning for a woman's face to appear on UK banknotes, and the tweets came on the day it was announced that the campaign had been successful and Jane Austen's face will be printed on new £10 notes.

Criado-Perez reported the threats to the police after receiving "about 50 abusive tweets an hour for about 12 hours" and said she had "stumbled into a nest of men who co-ordinate attacks on women".

An online petition calling on Twitter to add a "report abuse" button has since gained thousands of signatures and shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper has urged the website to carry out a full review of its abuse and complaints policies.

New Zealand's authorities have told a South African chef that he is too fat to continue living in the country.

Albert Buitenhuis, who weighs in at 130kg, was told he did not have an "acceptable standard of health" to have his visa renewed and now faces expulsion from the country.

This is despite the fact Buitenhuis has lost 30kg since moving to New Zealand in 2007, with his wife saying, "The irony is that at the moment he weighs less than when we first arrived in New Zealand and also less than in his first medical, which was accepted by [immigration authorities]."

In explanation for the slightly cruel move, an immigration spokesman said, "It is important that all migrants have an acceptable standard of health to minimise costs and demands on New Zealand's health services."

Margie Rhea Ramey, a 72-year-old from Hawkins County, Tennessee, has been accused of shooting multiple times at a family who tried to back up in the driveway of her home.

Oscar Scott, his wife and five children were reportedly lost on their way home from a holiday and needed to turn their car around despite Ramey's "no trespassing" sign.

Which doesn't seem like that much of an imposition, however according to Mr Scott: “I hadn’t even begun to turn my wheels to pull in her driveway. I just put my vehicle in reverse, and just as quickly as I put it in reverse I heard her hollering and my little boy said, ‘Does she got a gun?’ About that time she started shooting.”

Police say Ramey admitted firing the shots and claimed she had a problem with people tearing up her driveway, which seems pretty evident from the fact she fired a rifle at a family.
