We're Holding a Screening of Talal Derki's New Film, 'Return To Homs'

And giving away ten tickets to come and watch.

You know those films that effectively turn you into a manic, unpaid ad-man? The ones that you instantly have to tell your friends about, or tweet at internet acquaintances about, or scream at strangers about – just so someone else might be blessed with the gift of seeing it for themselves? Talak Derki's new documentary Return to Homs is one of them.

In fact, it's so much one of them that we've decided to take matters into our own hands and hold a screening at 5PM this Saturday, the 5th of July, at the Hackney Picturehouse.

The film is basically a look at Homs, an important rebel stronghold in the early days of the Syrian civil war. Derki follows people flooding into the city to support the besieged resistance, but the story mostly trails a young former-football player, Abdul Basset Saroot, who is driven to radicalism by the oppressive regime. You can watch the trailer below.

Our screening will be followed by a Q&A with the film's producer, Orwa Nyrabia, which is hosted by our Head of News, Kevin Sutcliffe. We're giving away five pairs of tickets to the event, and if you want a chance to win them it's as simple as following us on Twitter and retweeting that tweet below. We'll let you know the winners when the competiton closes at 12PM tomorrow.

We’re giving away 5 x double passes to our screening and Q&A of @ReturnToHoms at @HackneyPH – RT to win: http://t.co/mcI7XV6XFf
