Canon Presents... Power to Generation M

Portraiture with Gary Card

Gary reinterprets conventional portrait photography, creating vibrant, multi-coloured plasticine sculptures.

Creativity requires a constant search for inspiration; from the every day to the abstract. To mark the launch of the EOS M, Canon asked five unique talents – the new ‘Generation M’ of photographers – for their modern take on a traditional photographic style. Embarking on a creative journey to bring their ideas to life, each contributor produces an original piece of work, using their camera to capture the essence of the final creation.

Since Gary Card was very young he has been fascinated by the beauty, physicality and immediacy of plasticine. He also has a great love for classical sculpture, and has a long-held ambition to bring these two seemingly unrelated subjects together. For this project Gary reinterprets conventional portrait photography, creating vibrant, multi-coloured plasticine sculptures and recording the journey of this versatile material from block to sculpture.
