An LA Man Dragged a Puppy Until It Bled Because It "Refused to Walk"

The puppy was dragged on January 3. Then the story got passed around by angry internet people until the LAPD's Animal Cruelty Task Force (ACTF) got wind of it, zeroed in on the accused perpetrator, and made an arrest.

Dossey James, a 28-year-old Los Angeles resident is in custody after the LAPD arrested him for a puppy-dragging incident they saw on the internet. Apparently it was not this adorable video of someone dragging a puppy, which I recommend watching as a palate-cleanser once you're done reading this.

James is being charged with two counts of animal cruelty after people really blatantly filmed him with their phones while clicking their tongues at what a disgrace of a person he is. He just carried on dragging the thing until the road was streaked with blood. Afterwards, the dog was scraped up and needed some minor surgery, but is recovering fully.

The LAPD said James' explanation was that the dog "refused to walk."

Cesar Milan's website offers the following advice when introducing your puppy to a leash, which Dossey James probably didn't read:

"Let him gain confidence in you, and then in the leash and himself. You can even use a treat held in your hand down by your side at his head level to get him walking alongside you on the leash, and then occasionally make him stop and sit for the treat."

In KTLA's news report, LAPD media relations director Gregory Baek said this was a good example of citizen outrage translating to solid law enforcement. "We are aggressively prosecuting and investigating animal cruelty cases," he said. "People are utilizing more and more, high-tech devices such as smartphones, iPhones and iPads. They are reporting and capturing those images of animal cruelty, and reporting to us."

Baek's intention by publicizing this case is to hype the new and improved channels the police used to catch James. The puppy was dragged on January 3. Then the story got passed around by angry internet people until the LAPD's Animal Cruelty Task Force (ACTF) got wind of it, zeroed in on the accused perpetrator, and made an arrest.

In other words, this is not one of those situations like the trash can cat lady in England, where we all need to get out our pitchforks and Guy Fawkes masks and track this motherfucker down. He is already behind bars, and he's being held on an exceptionally harsh $145,000 bail, because the authorities checked his record and found other animal abuse-related incidents.

I say this because, during the hunt, we internet people already failed the maturity test on this one:

Yikes. Well, you're not necessarily a racist for wanting to drag James, despite America's history of dragging minorities of all sorts. You're just overreacting. The criminal justice system might actually be functioning properly in this case. In fact, the dog received medical treatment, and is expected to make a full recovery. It's even retained its friskiness, see?

I think we can all agree that puppy draggers are the worst people in the universe, and that they deserve a special level of hell, next to child molesters and Hitler. But please everyone, put away your rage boners. The bad guy is behind bars and the puppy is in good spirits.

By the way, many US jurisdictions have similar animal cruelty task forces. If you catch someone abusing an animal, and you want to bypass the internet pitchfork squad altogether, you can forward your phone videos to them directly. But of course, that won't help your YouTube channel accumulate hits, so why would you?
