Illustration by Marco KlefischIn the summer of 1982, British novelist and journalist Duncan Fallowell went to Lawrence, Kansas, to spend time with William S. Burroughs at his new house. On Fallowell’s arrival, Burroughs was busy befriending the local locksmith, because, as Burroughs put it, “You can’t have too many locks.” Fallowell also remembers Burroughs wearing a “jacket of some awful synthetic blue material which he very proudly said he bought at the thrift shop for $8.”
