GANGS ARE BORING NOW

I've always wanted to join a gang. The problem, aside from my puny frame and, consequently, my distaste for violence and pillaging, is that gangs these days are fucking boring. There's no showmanship or flair involved any more. New York City gangs in the 70s and 80s had style by the assload. Each gang had their own theme, be it wearing SS helmets with ripped-up leather jackets or carrying a gigantic sword while sporting a beret, things were undoubtedly more badass back then.

80 Blocks From Tiffany's was made in 1979 by Gary Weis, who used to make shorts for Saturday Night Live back in the good old days. If you're at all interested in gang culture, you've probably already seen it, or at least heard of it. It was originally released in 1985 but was, for most of its existence, really, really hard to find.

Although there are interviews with members from a bunch of different clubs, it mainly focuses on the Savage Nomads and the Savage Skulls, two gangs from the South Bronx with the type of style that scared the shit out of squares on the streets three decades ago, but would now make the penises of everyone at the Eagle Bar rise in unison.

Anyway, because it has always been so hard to track down, we were pretty excited to find 80 Blocks From Tiffany's uncut for free online. So if you haven't seen it, or even if you have, here it is.
