    Having reached a deal with 11 other nations over the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the President now faces opposition from Congress. Winning approval for the controversial trade deal on Capitol Hill is set to be the toughest fight of Obama's final year. —The Washington Post
  • El Faro Search Still On
    The US Coast Guard is now focusing solely on the search for survivors rather than the cargo ship, after concluding the El Faro sank in the wake of Hurricane Joaquin. Only one dead body, from a crew of 33, has been found so far. —CNN
  • Boy, 11, Charged with Murder
    An 11-year-old boy in Tennessee has been charged with first-degree murder. According to police, he shot an eight-year-old girl with his father's shotgun because she refused to let him see her puppy. —NBC News
  • Facebook to Launch Satellite
    The move into space is part of Facebook's Internet.org efforts to expand basic online access via cell phones. The AMOS-6 satellite will cover large parts of Africa from 2016, Mark Zuckerberg revealed in a post. —Reuters

  • Hotel Blast in Yemen
    A hotel in the city of Aden hosting the Yemeni prime minister has been struck by a missile, killing at least 12. Prime Minister Khaled Bahah escaped injury. Other missiles have been fired on troops from the UAE, members of a coalition fighting Yemen's Shiite rebels. —Reuters
  • Snowden Spills the Beans on 'Smurfs'
    Edward Snowden has claimed UK security services have "total control" over Britain's smartphones. The whistleblower revealed intelligence agency GCHQ uses hacking techniques named after the Smurfs to access phones without owners' knowledge. —BBC
  • Unrest in the West Bank
    Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has sent thousands of soldiers to the West Bank, promising a "strong hand" to quell Palestinian protest. It follows the killing of two teenage Palestinian stone-throwers, one of them a 13-year-old boy, in West Bank clashes on Monday. —AP
  • Canada's NSA: Oversight Promised
    Liberal leader Justin Trudeau has pledged to change the way Canada's foreign intelligence agency is able to spy on Canadians. In a town hall event hosted by VICE Canada, Trudeau promised legal oversight through court warrants. —VICE News
