The Way You Spell Your Band Name Sucks

Just be normal. Do normal things.

As a music writer with OCD, it really grinds my gears when bands spell their names like they learned grammar from Slingblade's School House Rock. If you can't think up something creative, you should use a title of a favorite song like Radiohead and the Rolling Stones did. Below is a list of the worst relevant culprits.

fun.

They seem to be trying for some sort of "I want to be formal, but I like to party" look with their incorrect use of a period while simultaneously using a lower case letter on a proper noun (much like their insistence on wearing suits while yodeling).

Merrill Garbus types her name like a sorority girl from Jersey whose biggest dream is to give Tiesto a blow job.

Miike Snow

Just because you are Swedish you are not allowed to create gobbledygook out of a perfectly good American name. This group name gets minus double points for tempting me to call my drug dealer.

SBTRKT

You cannot spell something in all capital letters with no vowel and expect people to know how to pronounce it. I've been hiding from their music because I assume it sounds like their name looks: A MDMA-induced bowel movement.

Rappers

You are excused because there are too damn many of you that spell your name funny. Plus, you can't make jokes about urban music these days without being labeled a hipster racist by hipster racists.

Holy Ghost!

This band name is grammatically incorrect for using an exclamation mark when no excitement is warranted.

OFF!

OFF! is grammatically correct. The use of all capital letters and exclamation point accurately expresses how pissed off they are.

!!! Chk Chk Chk

I had to take an Ativan just to type that.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.

If these buffoons were in fact sons of Dale Earnhardt Jr., then they should be referred to as Dale Earnhardt III. They are not related to Dale Earnhardt Jr. They are two kids who make pretty indie-pop and should be called MGMT Jr.*

*I am still too disappointed in MGMT to legitimately include them on this list, although since MGMT is a commonly accepted abbreviation of the word "management," and each individual letter in their name is pronounced, unlike SBTRCK, they passed the grammar test.
