VICE Exclusive: Nice Face's "Equipped" Video

Nice Face made a pretty video for the song "Equipped" and it made VICE's Nick Gazin feel all sort of emotions, so we decided to premiere it so you can feel emotions too.

One of my favorite records of 2010 was Nice Face's Immer Etwas on Sacred Bones. I managed to book Nice Face once but Nice Face didn't tour or play shows and after a while I stopped thinking about the band. Then they made a new record that's out on Hozac and it's 2010 in my brain all over again. I'm all excited to make the same mistakes over again.

Nice Face, which is mainly just one guy named Ian Magee sent us his new music video and it's really pretty so we're premiering it here on VICE. I asked Ian a few questions.

VICE: What's been up since Immer Etwas?

IAN MAGEE: So much stuff has happened in the last two years, it's kind of crazy. I somehow managed to get a consistent live band together for awhile up in NYC and we played a bunch of shows after Immer Etwas came out.  We even got flown out to LA for a weekend to perform in a cool little independent film about kids losing their minds in the woods at a concert.  It was called All Together Now. I don't know if it will ever be released, but it was fun as hell for us and it was a free trip to taco town. As for me, I left NYC to go to college in Maryland about a year ago. I'm studying mathematics and still recording music nonstop. It was right before and during this crazy transition that I completed most of the new record Horizon Fires (HoZac Records). I'm still perpetually and unsuccessfully looking for people to play music with down here, just like in New York. If you know of anyone, send them my way. Angry nerds to the front of the line.

This video's pretty. Did you make it?

So, this amazing animator Robert Wallace from London got in touch with me about doing a video, because he was a fan of the first record and heard another one was on the way. I sent him the new songs and he picked "Equipped" to turn into this paranormal entity that you see here. I can't even begin to describe how awesome it is to see a song I created turned into something way cooler than I ever could have imagined.

Did you shoot it on film? A lot of the shots look like you drew on the film with magic marker.

I'm not entirely sure what his process was. I don't want to reveal too much, cuz they might be trade secrets for him. He paid super close attention to detail though. I dig how you can see lyrics scrawled into the video at certain parts, but only if you're paying attention. And c'mon, who doesn't love pizza, cats, mac & cheese, isolation, and Peter Venkman hallucinations? No brainer.

Go get the new Nice Face record from Hozac everybody!
