John Lurie Has a New Late-Night Talk Show on VICE

The first episode airs tonight and will feature Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. We don't really know what's gonna happen, but we can guarantee it'll be weird.

John Lurie has had a pretty full creative life—he produced, directed, and starred in the cult HBO series Fishing with John, co-founded the Lounge Lizards in 1978 with his brother Evan, has composed the scores of more than 20 films (among them Get Shorty, which netted him a Grammy nomination), and now spends most of his time painting, which we interviewed him about a while back. You can check out his artwork here.

One thing John Lurie has not done in his prolific creative career is host a late-night talk show on VICE.com, which is what he will be doing starting tonight, Wednesday, at 9 PM. VICE After Dark with John Lurie is an experimental 90-minute talk show premiering this week, live-streamed from our office on VICE's YouTube channel. John's first guest will be his good friend Flea, from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Lurie will share his thoughts on various topics, chat with eclectic pickings of guests, and invite listeners to contribute their own ideas and directions by calling in during the show at (347) 474-0415.

Lurie said, "Though I spend almost all of my time on painting these days, when VICE contacted me about doing a show, I thought, Well, you have to do it—these are good people to be involved with. I don't really know what the show should or will be. For this reason we will have people call in and tell us what they think it should be. And then go from there."

We don't really know what's gonna happen, but we can guarantee it'll be weird.
