The Creators Project at Coachella 2011 - Trailer

A series of mini-documentaries revealing the creative processes behind the artworks, installations and performances of our three-day infiltration of Coachella.

In the days leading up to our three-day infiltration of Coachella, our artists were fine-tuning the details of their live performance collaborations and we caught up with Matt Clark of UVA, Bjorn Copeland of Black Dice, and director Chris Milk to find out more about how their projects would help visually portray the festival experience in a whole new way.

While J. Spaceman and Jonathan Glazer’s installation was being realized by One of Us and constructed by Undisclosable, we found out more about the creative process behind the serene, cathedral-like sanctuary of sound located amidst the chaos of the music festival.

We shot tons of live and behind-the-scenes footage over the course of the weekend, and also talked to fans about their reactions and experiences, while still managing to catch a few bands like Odd Future, Interpol,Animal Collective, Arcade Fire, Ratatat, and Kanye West. Read our play-by-play coverage of Day 1, Day 2, and Day 3, and feast your eyes on a comprehensive slideshow here.

You can expect a series of mini-documentaries revealing the creative processes behind the artworks, installations and performances in the weeks to come, but for now, here’s a brief trailer breaking down the tech-enhanced festival experience to whet your appetite.

Muti Randolph may have said it best when talking about his installation in the Sahara dance tent—unintentionally breaking down the goal of our creative partnership with Coachella—the generative visuals enable concert-goers to “not only to feel the music, but to see the music.”
