Thank You Death Grips, For Making Thursday Amazing

They released all the a capella vocals to their songs. Marvin Gaye x MC Ride, anyone?

Back in the 00s the "mash-up" album was a pretty miserable cultural phenomenon which spawned one interesting idea (Dangermouse's take on the Beatles/Jay Z, The Grey Album) and hundreds of free-download badly-tagged iTunes-ruining bullshit variations on that theme (Beatallica, the Beastles, Jaydiohead).

Well guess what, the mash-up album is back and this time it's not fucking awful. It all started when Death Grips shared the instrumental and a capella vocals for their last two releases on their new Twitter account. The NO LOVE DEEP WEB stems are up for free download here, and the Government Plates stems are here.

Because it’s the internet, people on the internet have made use of what Death Grips released on the internet, re-jigged it, and put it back on to the internet. The result is a bunch of remixes, some of which have already been packaged together into a 13-track album.

Sure, not everything blends nicely with MC Ride’s vocals but OMG if that Marvin Gaye tip isn’t the hottest soul selection mix this side of JAY Z and Lil Wayne’s “Hello Brooklyn” sample. But the best thing about this record is it isn't trying to be some bullshit Rolling Stone exercise in wowww what if John Lennon had hung out with Chuck D. Most of the beats on here are absolute wank: Snow Patrol, Macklemore, Taylor Swift. And it's just pretty funny to hear Ride shitting his spleen all over "Chasing Cars".
