The Story of Glam Rock's Lost God

Noisey is premiering the trailer for 'Jobriath AD', the biopic of the first openly gay rock star.

Noisey is currently premiering the trailer for a new film called Jobriath AD. It's a music documentary about Jobriath, who was and is known as the first openly gay rock star. That's the trailer up there in the player. You can also watch it over at the Noisey YouTube Channel.

"The American Bowie", "The True Fairy of Rock & Roll" and "Hype of the Year" were names attributed to Jobriath upon his debut into the world of 70s glam rock. But his reign was brief – lasting just two years and two albums – and his career more or less sabotaged by a bunch of suits run amok. He was shunned by the gay community and dismissed by critics. Eventually, Jobriath was excommunicated from the music industry, and became an early casualty of AIDS. Since then, new generations of fans have discovered him through his champions: The Pet Shop Boys, Joe Elliott of Def Leppard, Siouxsie Sioux and Morrissey, all of whom cite Jobriath as a groundbreaking influence. It's heartbreaking, pretty unbelievable stuff. Here's the film poster:
