Powder and Rails

US Open

For the first time in 30 years, the Open was not held in Vermont.

Some crusty old snowboarders were probably pissed about it when, for the first time in 30 years, the Burton US Open Snowboarding Championships were not held in Vermont but rather Vail, Colorado. More than that, the Open was split into two locations. The qualifier was held at Seven Springs, in Pennsylvania, in front of a bunch of bewildered Western PA huckleberries. In the end, moving the Open to Vail was a pretty good deal: they built the best competition halfpipe of 2013 and the broads were way hotter than usual.
