What's the Strangest Situation You Could Realistically Wake Up to?

In May, Don Ennis announced to his family, friends and co-workers that he was transgender and was splitting from his wife. Recently, however, he claims to have suffered a two-day bout of amnesia, emerging out of it under the impression that it was 1999 and confused as to why he was in bed with a wig, women's underwear, breasts and an ID card that read "Dawn Ennis". He then decided that he'd been misdiagnosed as transgender and wanted to go back to living as a man again.

That was presumably quite a strange scenario for Don to wake up to, which got me thinking about what other strange scenarios people could realistically wake up to. So I walked around and asked them about it.

Jack, student: Fire-breathing dragon wasps that are flying around the place, burning down my house. And then eight of them would start having sex.

That doesn't sound very realistic. Would you join in?
No, I might get burned.

You would definitely get burned.

Flavia, graphic designer: It would be cool if I could wake up to a world that has no countries. It’s all one big country. No boundaries. The world as one big nation.

Would everyone speak the same language?
Yes. And there would be no discrimination.

You should run for Miss World.
Maybe I should.

Luke, drummer: It would probably be the apocalypse. Everything burning down. This world war three type scenario. Everyone’s dying. Explosions.

Would you be excited or scared?
I would be scared, followed by a rush of excitement.

What would your first action be?
Probably sit and watch for a bit. See what’s going on. And then I’d get in there – get involved.

Alice, student: It would be waking up to a sharknado.

What would that be like?
Water everywhere, sharks everywhere. People getting munched up in the street.

Okay.

Rob: The strangest scenario is that I would be hanging in a noose.

Wow, dark. But wouldn’t you be dead?
No, it would just be those last few seconds until I’m about t die.

Wow, even darker. So waking up to go back to sleep. Forever.
