VICE Denmark's Listless Pursuit of Weekend Kicks - Week 28

All that happy jazz can really bum you out.

MAYHEM jAZZFEST
Walking around central Copenhagen this week has felt like being in some bizarre production of Aristocats; jam-packed with happy, swinging awful jizz-jazz attended by morons on segways. We do realize that Copenhagen Jazz festival is the major pay-day for a segment of musicians who’ve gone hungry for the better part of 2013, so we wont rag too much on them. We don’t need to, because there are also a few choice acts crammed into that extensive, slightly repetitive programme. Like Thundercat, who played yesterday (yep, that’s the girth of our post-Roskilde research muscle, sorry). Of course we can’t very well recommend you to go see something that has already happened. That would just be silly. So, we suggest you head out to Mayhem where they’ve arranged a Jazzfest all of their own, and by the looks of things it will probably extend – and quite possibly violate – your perception of jazz. Should be a good thing. Also, we’re digging the flyer (by Karen Constance).
