Five passengers aboard a luxury cruise liner called the Costa Concordia died after it ran aground and capsized on Friday night. A further 15 people are still missing, and boat owners Costa Cruises say that captain Francesco Schettino might be to blame for the accident. Schettino, who is currently being questioned by prosecutors on suspicion of multiple manslaughter and abandoning ship, has protested his own innocence on Italian television. On Sunday night, prosecutors were discussing the possibility that Schettino steered the ship that close to the Tuscan island of Giglio in order to salute a colleague who lived there. UK

Clever education secretary Michael Gove thinks taxpayers should fund the buying of a £60m boat for the Queen. She'll have been a decorative head of state for 60 years later this year and Gove reckons she deserves a new boat. The Guardian took advantage of Mr Gove's sound economic logic and the profound empathy he enjoys with the British public in spectacular fashion. UK
A WOMAN BLEW UP A FACTORY THAT KILLED HER DAD
Sarah Griffiths won a competition

16 years ago, a man named Mike Locke died after he was scalded to death by a giant pressure cooker at Campbell's Tower factory in Norfolk. This weekend, his daughter Sarah Griffiths blew it to shit with a load of nitro-glycerine – but it was fine, because she won the chance to do so in a competition. "It was an emotional release, the thud came shooting through my body and it felt like I finally had some closure," said the 41-year-old. "The tower has been a constant reminder of my dad's tragic death for the last 16 years but now I have finally been able to put my demons to rest." I was going to say that I couldn't think of many things worse than getting scalded to death, but then I read that Mr Locke died a few days after his daughter's wedding day, and I could. Hollywood

Does anyone care about the Golden Globes?

(via)
The Golden Globes were happening as I went to bed last night. No one had won anything yet, but a couple of people on a Guardian liveblog were talking a lot about dresses and bitching about Madonna.

TWITTER CONTINUED TO BE UNKIND IN THE EXTREME TO AARON RAMSEY
The Arsenal player and Welsh captain has life threatened and is blamed for Gary Speed's suicide

And this after having his dress sense compared to that of a "rapist" and a "paedophile" by teammate Wojciech Szczesny earlier in the week.

He didn't play that badly, did he?

Anyway, the Arsenal winner guy was later booted off Twitter, and loads of people reported him to the Metropolitan police.
