Punk vs. Sharia. The Iranian government recently decided that spiky, jagged hair is satanic and thus illegal countrywide. Iran issued a style guide for haircuts in 2010, which forbid ponytails but gave 1950s greaser pompadours the pass. Now, spiked up hair is out, along with tanning beds and eyebrow plucking. The head of the Iranian barber's union said that these "devil-worshipping hairstyles are now forbidden," and any hairstylist caught giving kids a spiked-up look would be "harshly dealt with." The devil's got horns, and spiked hair kind of looks like horns, so there's a little logic there, I guess? But let's be honest, the devil obviously has Conor Oberst emo bangs.1.
