AHL Player Fails Miserably to Get Off Ice After Skate Malfunction

Jaime Sifers lost his skate blade during a shift and struggled hilariously to get back to his bench.

Making your way to the bench at the end of a grueling shift is a tough enough task at the best of times. Said journey becomes immensely more difficult, however, when one of your skate blades decides to bail on you mid-shift.

AHL defenceman Jaime Sifers found that out firsthand thanks to a hilarious sequence of events that occurred during Cleveland's 4-2 win over Charlotte on Tuesday. After Sifers (No. 26 in white) lost part of his skate in his own zone, he immediately tried to make his way to the bench, but it was a mission that proved much harder than it first seemed.

After seeing Sifers' initial struggles, the good samaritan rocking the black and white stripes tried giving the Cleveland blueliner a little push. When that didn't do the trick, teammate and good guy Markus Hannikainen offered some assistance, using Sifers like a "learn-to-skate" chair prop as he tried to push him to safety.

The final few metres of the trip may have been the most difficult, as the 33-year-old looked like a limping dog while he dug his only functional skate into the ice over and over again, inching toward the gate. Finally, he arrived to a warm welcome as he was pulled into the bench by his teammates.

The struggle was so real, but so was the effort.

In 26 games so far this season, Sifers has 3 goals, 9 points, 26 penalty minutes, and a minus-1 skate blade rating.
