Walking In A Water Wonderland

Artists transform water into works of art in Ibirapuera Park.

You may find coffee vital to your survival, but this exhibition’s devoted to a far livelier liquid: water. Since last November, Ibirapuera Park has celebrated one of the most important substances for our existence on Earth. Curated by Marcello Dantas, the exhibition Água na Oca, which translates to “Water in the Hollow,” combines science, art and technology through interactive installations, audiovisual material, real and virtual aquariums, and artwork.

The exhibition elaborates on water’s value to human life and potential for sustainable use, while demonstrating that water inspires and enables numerous art forms.

Each floor of the expo promotes a unique theme. In the basement, there’s the “Desaguar” section, dedicated to works dependent on the power of water. The ground floor depicts the “Mundo D’água,” which explores the relations between man and water. There, visitors can discover more than 60 species of fish living in seven different ecosystems. There’s also technology to simulate the fury of indoor floods.

Rejane Cantoni and Leonardo Crescenti, who collaborated on O Espelho at last year’s Creators Project launch event in São Paulo, contributed to expert panel discussions about their aquatic inspirations.
