Golden Vessel's Debut is a Bit Like Dreaming You Can Fly

Brisbane producer Golden Vessel's debut EP, Before Sleep, is a collection of dreamy, atmospheric collaborations with some incredibly talented vocalists. The title came from a quick, thoughtless statement one night while working on a collaboration with Abraham Tilbury—remarking that had to get the track done "before sleep". Aptly titled, the songs on Before Sleep convey a sense of peace that you can only experience when you finally fall into bed after a long day.

Opening track "Vines" floats you along on a cloud steered by Woodes' gorgeous accompanying vocals. Golden Vessel's simplistic sound is showcased on this song as it builds gradually into a dreamy climax, all while Woodes reminds you to "take what you need, all the time you need," and you certainly will.

"Wave" is just that. You'll find yourself swimming in a gentle swell while "this wave of emotions"—as feature vocalist OKBADLANDS puts it—washes over you. This track transforms from an ethereal dream ride into something spacey towards the end. It sounds like some satellite sending alien signals across the cosmos. Clearly it's pretty easy to get lost in Golden Vessel's music.

The simplistic, atmospheric layering on "Do You Think About Me" opens the door to some pop-influenced relationship pondering on the part of MTNS, and before long you find yourself deep in the instrumental thought-provoker that is "Schoolbag." If you can't picture yourself kicking back in the summer sun to this one then I don't know what else will get you through winter. This track has Good Time Vibes written all over it.

As you continue drift along on Golden Vessel's, well, golden vessel, you'll find yourself swathed in the sophisticated sounds of "Never Know." This song is like the soundtrack to a dream. A really nice dream. A dream where you're flying over the city at night. Ever had that one? All this is happening while Lastling's ghostly vocals beautifully capture the mystery of never knowing something, but being totally at peace with it. That's what this EP does. It puts you at peace with the world, at least for the duration.

After what feels like a fantastic night's sleep, experiencing different dreams and realities, you end up at the title track "Before Sleep." Something on this one sounds like you're walking through a jungle. By this point you'll realise that each song is a bit like a different dream. That's the vibe we got, anyway.
