Splashed Liquid Used To Create Floral Sculptures

9 works of watery wonder.

Gorgeous and temporary, Jack Long's Liquid Sculptures are created from splashed material caught with a high speed camera at the exact moment of impact. Reminding us in many ways of recent film subject Fabian Oefner's Orchid,  Long's quickly dispersing work manages to create the appearance of blossoms shooting out of their pedestal.

Like Oefner, Long's work also requires a system of trial and error:

"I begin with a concept of what I want to create visually and then I construct the sets and devices required to produce them," Long recently explained to NaldzGraphics. "It takes a significant amount of time to construct the set ups. I then begin to test with water to refine the forms and timing. I will shoot tethered into a laptop computer refining the work as I go. Once I get the effects I want, I begin to introduce color and texture into the forms. It will take hundreds of captures at times before I am satisfied with the results."
