Bronx-born sensation Cardi B has released her 21 Savage-featuring new single, “Bartier Cardi.” It’s attacking the same space as Cardi’s breakout megahit “Bodak Yellow”—its ominous, distorted organ is even in the same key—but it doesn’t fizz in the same way. Part of the problem is 21 Savage, who slurs away behind too many of Cardi’s lines and comes through with a weary and unimaginative verse of his own, half-heartedly rapping something about hot sauce and titties and getting a blow job. Part of it is 30 Roc and Cheeze Beatz’s production, which tries to pick up speed but just spins tires and never takes off. And part of it is just Cardi’s verses, which contain none of the scorched earth lyrics that she reels off when she's in the mood. But, sure, if this comes on the playlist after “Bodak Yellow” ends, you’re not going to throw your phone out the window. Listen to “Bartier Cardi” at the top of the page.
