Once a year, China offers a rare glimpse into its government — here's what to watch for this weekend

On Sunday, the nearly 3,000 delegates of the National People’s Congress will convene in Beijing, giving the world a rare glimpse into the inner workings of the Chinese government.

The Congress is largely ceremonial and generally functions as a rubber stamp to communist party leadership. But they will be announcing growth numbers and goals for 2017 — that could signal what China’s intentions are as it looks to expand its power base into the vacuum left by Trump’s, “America first” foreign policy.
