I don’t know about you, but the “entryway” of my home is more “space behind the door” than a formal foyer. But regardless of how much (or little) space you’re working with, we all need an informal mudroom to leave our wet shoes and jackets after a day of navigating nasty weather, lest we track gross city juice all over the floor. 

This is to say nothing of those awkward moments when guests arrive, standing dumbfounded in the doorway, not knowing if they’re supposed to pile their crap on your couch or try to find a coat closet.
