Metallica Tore Things to Shreds on 'Jimmy Kimmel'

They ripped through new song "Atlas, Rise!" and the immortal "For Whom the Bell Tolls."

Metallica are… killing it right now? Their double album Hardwired… to Self-Destruct had more fire than any album that long had the right to have. The quartet took to the Jimmy Kimmel Live stage as part of a whole episode that featured the band extensively doing interviews and participating in game shows.

While a live version of Hardwired cut "Atlas, Rise!" improved on the album recording thanks to Metallica's use of lower guitar tunings in concert, a run through the 1984classic "For Whom the Bell Tolls" showed the band at full power. Just compare the crowd in the two videos and realize that as far as they've come, even Metallica doesn't care for new Metallica as much as they do for what's tried and true. Both are solid performances, though, and you can watch them both below.

Phil is riding the lightning, but not in the way the song is actually about. He's on Twitter.
