Cris Carter: Geno Smith Got Sucker-Punched Because He Lacks Leadership

People are saying some pretty stupid stuff about Geno Smith and leadership after the New York Jets quarterback got sucker-punched by a teammate.

Well, it did not take very long for the molten takes to start streaming in after a teammate sucker-punched Geno Smith, breaking his jaw. Almost immediately, Jason Whitlock tweeted, "Swagger is a cheap suit of confidence that baits men to test your courage." Which, I don't even know what this means? If you are only swaggerful, and not truly courageous, you might get sucker-punched? But it gets better. Cris Carter appeared on ESPN and went to ol' reliable in this day and age of instant analysis: leadership.

According to Carter, if a third-string linebacker who has barely seen any action sucker-punches you—or put another way, if he hits you when you are not looking—that shows an absence of "leadership." For the guy who got punched.

A coward does a cowardly thing and this is a poor reflection on you. Not only is it a poor reflection, but it is a fatal flaw because this crowd values that unquantifiable character trait above all others at your position. Tom Brady wouldn't have gotten sucker punched! Ipso fucking facto, Geno Smith lacks leadership. Let that marinate for a little bit.

This is bold, I know, but I believe it with all my heart: Geno Smith doesn't have a broken jaw because he lacks leadership. He has a broken jaw because some asshole punched him when he wasn't paying attention.
