Rex the Dog Throws us a Big Bouncy Bone

Tastier than a bowl of Pedigree Chum.

Rex the Dog is easily the best producer out there who disguises himself as one of our canine companions. Way back when, he was known as JX and was responsible for hands in the air classics like "There's Nothing I Won't Do" and "Son of a Gun." Then, miraculously, he grew another set of legs and started sniffing the backside's of the lads over at Cologne techno powerhouse Kompakt, going on to release a string of airy, breezy tech-house records that sparkled with understated wit.

Next week sees the release of his new single and THUMP have got first dibs on the title track, "Sicko" - a wavering, wandering slice of warped techno that is definitely worthy of a Best in Show award.

We reached out to the man/dog himself for a few words/yelps about the new record.

THUMP: You keep relatively quiet on the release front as Rex The Dog - do you strive for quality over quantity?
Rex the Dog:Well we've been building our own equipment recently and then making tracks with that equipment, so we haven't chosen the best process if we want quantity! But then we've never been like chop chop chop fast bang here you go.

Who designs your sleeves for you?
I do. Are you asking this because they're amazing? Or because you think we should fire the designer?

Who's the biggest sicko going?
Ah, the title comes from Trainspotting, well kind of, the character Sick Boy? It's meant to be the name of a sleazy drugged-up robot that makes the main sound on the track. Imagine a drugged-up robot, that'd be a mess, it'd smash everyone in the face and it wouldn't even notice.

Sicko is released on Kompakt on March 2 - pre-order it here
