DJ NJ Drone (AKA Bobby DeBois) will drop his first physical release this week on March 25 via Geng's Purple Tape Pedigree imprint. The six-track Syn Stair EP is a characteristically unclassifiable offering from the New York-based producer, who is cementing himself with the likes of Arca, Evian Christ and Amnesia Scanner as dancefloor experimentalists trawling the outer limits of club-oriented sounds.

Taking cues from footwork and UK bass, DeBois melds disparate sounds into heady experiments in rhythm and texture. Syn Stair is melancholic, futuristic, and outright disturbing—DeBois almost gives his machines their own voices and puts them in conversation with one another. According to a press release, DeBois also utilized a number of real-world recordings, though they have been mangled far beyond any possibility of recognition. In addition to a digital release, Syn Stair will be pressed to vinyl, with the legendary Rashad Becker of Berlin's Dubplates & Mastering on mastering duties.

Today, THUMP is premiering the third cut off the EP, "SYN 555 Zone," a fluttering and reverb-heavy floor-shaker with waves of droning bass. "This track was built around the idea of claustrophobia—the tension and release. Like seeing a glory hole in a crowded subway, stuck in a tunnel," DeBois told THUMP over email.
