Shiner Beer has finally made its way to the Empire State from the great state of Texas. To celebrate, we threw a big Texas-style barbeque in Brooklyn with two pigs roasting over hot coals and Shiner drafts on tap. Our guests welcomed the southern beer to the big city with open mouths, throwing back beer and munching on pork bits until they couldn’t drink or eat anymore.

Since Shiner hails from a small town, we thought it would be appropriate to ask the Brookynites what advice they would give the transplant on how to make it in the city that never sleeps (or stops drinking).

Yeah, I moved here from Chicago. Did anyone give you any advice?
Don’t live in Bed-Stuy.

Go to a lot of events and then everyone can try you.

Isaiah, 24, Food Service Manager: Yes, I came from the Dominican Republic.

Is there any life advice people gave you before you moved?
No, they just threw me in the water and told me to swim. Well it looks like you made it. What advice would you give Shiner?
Stay true to your flavor.

Is it your first time having a Shiner?
Gabe, 32, Works for a Startup: No. I actually had it in Texas.

Where did you have one in Texas?
I had it in Austin at a party not too unlike this one, with fashionable millenials and music. I was there for South by Southwest.

Well since Shiner has come to New York, what friendly advice would you give?
Don’t try too hard and stay in bars that have sweaty dance parties.

So what advice would you give Shiner now that it has moved to the big city from Texas?

What do you think of the beer so far?
I really like the Shiner Bock.

Did you move here from somewhere else?
No I haven’t. I have lived in Brooklyn my whole life.

Do you ever give advice to people who move to New York?
The only advice I give is experience it. Take it all in—the good, the bad, and the ugly.
