If you're like us here in Toronto, the last time you laid eyes on a swelling blue shoreline, a patch of dewy grass, or a pair of flip-flops, is so inconceivable it's frightening. At this point you've long scrolled through your summertime uploads and have tormented your Instagram followers with one too many 'Throwback Thursdays' of you with a Bubba keg.Here to brush you with summertime euphoria (sans the hashtags) is the first release by Mateo Roksandic, called "Smooth Child."Throughout last year, Toronto label Downpour Recordings provided us with a smorgasbord of releases that drew on a range of styles and tastes. From techy live mixes, G-House tracks, and swamping deep house, 2014 was a dynamic year for the label and its respective artists.Mateo kicks off the New Year for Downpour with his four track EP The Smooth Child. The Detroit border city producer has spooned a generous helping of new wave on Downpour's plate, citing beach vibes over dance floor killers. The title track "Smooth Child" is enticing from the beginning―with tender synth tugs and a tropical air, it's gradually drizzled with buttery vocals from Toronto-based artist Cody Lee."The Smooth Child EP was one of the most natural writing processes for me. The roots of all three songs date back to 2013 and were generally completed in a couple weeks. But it wasn't until early 2014 that Andreas (Cosella) and I got in touch about Downpour Recordings and I rediscovered these songs," said Mateo. "I knew I needed a vocalist on at least one of the tracks and when Cody Lee did his thing on "Smooth Child," he just took it to another level. What I love about these songs is that even two years after their inception I still feel attached to them, they have a timeless feel."The full EP is a striking blend of sexy, nu-disco sounds and well-balanced compositions.
