Bryce Haper is Youngest MVP in Baseball History, Begs to Have a "Mey-Mey" (Meme) Made After Him

Watch him whip, watch him...

Bryce Harper blew out the MVP competition last night, becoming the youngest unanimous MVP in baseball history. Harper ended up with 420 points—186 points ahead of the second-place contender Paul Goldschmidt—and was the 7th unanimous MVP in AL history. This is all coming from the same Bryce Harper who was strangled because of lolly-gagging earlier in the season, despite his unimpeachable Statcast work ethic. Numbers just favor the man.

And how did Harper celebrate? Why, by going on the Scott Van Pelt show, and all but begging the world to make a meme about him.

At the end of doing what was essentially a victory-lap interview, SVP asked Bryce Harper if he'd rather be as bald as SVP, or never have a season again where he'd have double digit home runs. In response, Harper said,

"I don't even want to answer that because I know how many memes are going to be out there with me with a bald head. I really probably would take the bald head."

Wait. Didn't catch that? If not, you're likely at work and can't listen to the video. Because the important moment to hone in on is the word "memes"—it simply doesn't transcribe. Because there's a vast difference between reading words and saying words.

Hell, for the longest time I thought that the word "assuage"—the kind of word you'd really have to douche-ily go out of your way to use in conversation—sounded like "massage" without an M. Let me just "assage" the situation. Seems to make sense. You're massaging the problems out of it! Well, I once douche-ily went out of the way to use it in conversation and was rightly called out for sounding like an idiot. (Real pronunciation: uh-sweyj.)

But Harper seems to have been living in his own kind of glorious bubble, in which he hasn't encountered the word "meme" elsewhere besides the internet. And his choice of pronunciation is, well, choice. The man calls it a "mey-mey." And by doing so, has initiated the most meta-meme of all. The Mey-mey meme. It even had SVP asking himself,

Here are some contenders for the best mey-mey's so far:

That's ok. Anything better?

Yeah, that's alright.

Well, not having seen anything too inspiring, I took my own stab at the situation. Because, for the love of God, this Harper pronunciation is too good to be left alone.

Watch him, watch him.
