Marjorie Taylor Greene Says the Capitol Riot Would’ve Worked If She Organized It

“Not to mention, we would’ve been armed,” the congresswoman said.

Marjorie Taylor Greene said Saturday that if she and Steve Bannon had organized the Capitol riot to overturn the 2020 presidential election, there would have been more guns and it would have worked.

“I’ll just tell you something: if Steve Bannon and I had organized that, we would have won,” Greene said at a New York Young Republican Club dinner, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center. “Not to mention, we would’ve been armed.”

The Georgia congresswoman was referencing accusations that she and other Republicans played a role in planning the riot by giving “reconnaissance tours” of the Capitol in the days preceding the coup attempt.

Attendees of the dinner included Bannon, Donald Trump Jr., former New York mayor and Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, far-right commentator Jack Posobiec, white nationalist Peter Brimelow, and Rep.-elect George Santos, according to coverage of the event by SPLC and the New York Post.

White House spokesperson Andrew Bates said Sunday that Greene’s comments go “against our fundamental values as a country.”

“This violent rhetoric is a slap in the face to the Capitol Police, the DC Metropolitan Police, the National Guard, and the families who lost loved ones as a result of the attack on the Capitol,” Bates said. “All leaders have a responsibility to condemn these dangerous, abhorrent remarks and stand up for our Constitution and the rule of law."

Rep. Kevin McCarthy, the leading (but not guaranteed) candidate to be the next House Speaker, did not immediately respond to a request for comment from VICE News. McCarthy has promised to assign Greene to committees after the House voted last year to kick her off for endorsing violence against Democratic leaders, and has vowed to kick Democrats off committees in retaliation.

During her speech, Greene also took a weird detour into complaining about adult sex toys being sold at pharmacies

“By the way, you can pick up a butt plug or a dildo at Target and CVS nowadays,” Greene said to boos. “I don’t even know how we got here.”
