Patriots Seal Win over Chiefs on Absurd Deflection

This is the only way it could have ended, really.

Andy Reid and the Chiefs took their sweet-ass time on their final scoring driving, chewing up 80 yards and just over five minutes of clock to get within one touchdown of the Patriots. The only problem was, they got the ball with 6:29 left in the game, which means they only left 1:13 on the clock. It was classic Andy Reid clock management, which is to say it was incredibly poor clock management and forced Kansas City to go for the onside kick, which they did not recover. But! They still had a chance.

On second-and-12 of the ensuing drive, Tom Brady dropped back and looked for Rob Gronkowski. Instead of Gronk, he found Tamba Hali, who was this damned close to an interception and maybe even a game-tying pick-six. Oh, but these are motherfucking Patriots and despite everything you hear from their crybaby, the-world-is-against-us fanbase, things will always seem to bounce their way.

So, naturally, the ball bounced off Hali's arms, off Gronk's shoulder, and floated right to Julian Edelman. And, going against script in this game, Edelman actually caught the ball. For a first down. Game over, Pats win 27-20. Chiefs players outnumbered Patriots players five to two in the area of the play and it didn't matter; the ball essentially took a right-hand turn off two players to get to Edelman. The amount of crazy shit that had to happen in order for Edelman to catch that ball—when the most likely and reasonable outcome would have been either a drop or an interception—will keep Chiefs fans up at night.

That, and the six hours it took to score a touchdown at the end of the game.
