A 24-year-old England fan has been given a five-year banning order, after he was caught participating in violent disorder before England's clash with Russia on Saturday.

Daniel Warlow, a Birmingham City supporter from Tipton in the West Midlands, was part of a "risk group" of Blues fans identified by police ahead of Euro 2016. The Guardian reports that he has been involved in at least nine incidents of domestic football disorder since 2010.

A police spotter in the UK noticed Warlow throwing a chair in the midst of the violence which gripped Marseille last Friday. Warlow is not thought to be contesting the application for his banning order.

In sentencing, district judge Shamim Qureshi said: "I'm not going to give you a lecture, I think you've learned from experience of the last week how things can go terribly wrong in society.

"It's important to realise that you're the first person subject to this application in this country, so you'll no doubt be vilified for that on social media and the internet.

"But there are many others in the same boat. You are not a scapegoat. Each will receive their just desserts when brought to book."

Owing to his "high risk" status, Warlow was reportedly stopped by police at Birmingham Airport on June 9. He stated that he was a member of the England Supporters' Club, and that he had a ticket for England's opening match against Russia.

Warlow is now prohibited from travelling to any England or Birmingham match in the UK. He must also surrender his passport ahead of away games involving either side.
