MIXED BY Proper Trax

Tennesse producers Will Azada and Alex Falk come correct with an hour of no-bullshit house and techno jams.

Like the words "bloody," "fancy," or "brilliant," "proper" is a word that makes sense in America but takes on new meanings in England. It's hard to imagine someone with an American accent calling a sick tune a "proper track," but one Tennessee-based label, Proper Trax, is holding it down for Euro-style sophistication on this side of the pond.

So far, the imprint has come correct with a handful of no-nonsense house jams from producers based in the American Southeast, including Knoxville-based founder Will Azada, Nashville's Grey People, Tampa talent Chris Mitchell and fellow Knoxvillian Alex Falk. As Azada and Falk demonstrate on his exclusive mix for THUMP, there's not much arty, abstract experimentation to distract from the banging, no-bullshit end of the label's catalogue. And while the set does take a dive or two towards gritty textures and blurry beats, the meat and potatoes of Proper Trax's set lies in zig-zag acid house basslines and properly pounding kicks.
