Celebrating one year of Mania with Sleep D

How to host a birthday party to remember.

Mania turns one this Saturday, making Melbourne a year older and a whole lot wiser. Together Lounge and Sleep D have been schooling local audiences for twelve months with music from across the dance music spectrum. They've hosted the best, and rising local talent like Dan White, Daze, Tuff Sherm, Harvey Sutherland, Andy Hart, M5k, Tornado Wallace, Francis Inferno Orchestra as well as internationals such as Terekke, Funkineven, Huerco.S, Steffi, Virginia, Secret Sundaze.

Tomorrow night the candles will be blown, along with your mind, by Sapporo sound designer and producer Kuniyuki Takahashi, and a set from DJ So. Their arrival in Melbourne is enough reason for a party itself, and the Mania celebrations continue all night with Sleep D, XOXO Presents (Simon TK, Paul Jager) & DJ Camov. Before the madness begins, we caught up with Sleep D to tell us more about the night, and share some favourite tracks that have rocked the floor this last year.

Sleep D: Mania is an avenue to showcase DJ's and artists, across all the different styles of music inspiring us, to a crowd of like minded, fun people every week. It also manages to bridge the gap between the music we make as Sleep D and the music we put out through our label Butter Sessions. Whether it's a Butter Sessions showcase with DJ Fettburger, Madteo playing an extended set, local guys like Grant Camov, Paul Jager or Spin Club holding it down, or Barry Sunset twirling his infamous (but now long gone) Melbourne Bitter hat, there's a consistent free spirited atmosphere in the room that keeps it fresh for us each week.

It's been a year of Mania on May 30th and we've brought out two of our all time favourites to celebrate the occasion. Kuniyuki (LIVE) from the legendary Mule Musiq, whose records regularly get dropped at Mania, and SO, a journey selector who we resonate with deeply and is also a regular resident at Japan's Mindgames: The Labyrinth festival, a place we look up to.
