3-D America in Ruins

Stereoscopic pics of abandoned buildings before they’re demolished.

We’re big fans of Kickstarter, and 3-D, so you can imagine how we felt when we stumbled upon Matt Bergstrom’s Kickstarter page. Bergstrom has already made 3-D reels of classic places in Chicago, but his newest project is more interesting and ambitious in scope, which is why he’s asking for your help.

Coasting on the idea that vintage technology is the best container for pictures of antiquated places, Bergstrom is adding the intensity of 3-D to the eeriness of abandoned buildings. Bergstrom says, “Several of the ruined buildings in the new reels have been demolished soon after the photographs were taken, so that the View-Master reels will become souvenirs of an imagined visit to a place which is no longer accessible,” all of which gives the images a ghostly aftereffect.

Check out Bergstrom’s Kickstarter page to get involved and help fund this interesting project. Then you can collect them all.
