Carlisle United's Brunton Park is Decidedly Very Flooded

Might be better for water polo than soccer.

Storm Desmond has been wreaking havoc on the British Isles. The army has been deployed to rescue families hit by the "once in several decades" storm, as characterized by Met Éireann head of forecasting Gerald Fleming. Boats in the streets, acres of fields dominated by pools to which you can't see the bottom—one 90-year-old London man was reported dead after being blown by strong winds into a moving bus.

But one of the more curious sights to come from the whole ordeal is a transformation of Carlisle United's Brunton Park from a soccer pitch to a swimming pool. It seems the city of Carlisle had been hit particularly hard by the storm, with the United Biscuits factory reporting flooding of up to 5ft. It seems that Carlisle United football club is experiencing a similar depth, as their field appears completely inundated, as evidenced by the aerial photo above. It makes for a pretty startling sight.

Just think of the poor bastards who have to resod the thing later. Yeesh.
