Photos from Catastrophe Day in the West Bank

Dodging rubber bullets with young Palestinians.

Last week, VICE reporters Alice Wagstaffe and Dan Dennison went to the West Bank to watch the local Palestinians observe Nakba Day. "Nakba" translates from the Arabic as "catastrophe", so as you can imagine, the 15th of May observance isn't exactly a Mardi Gras of glee and happiness, more a petrol-powered bonfire of old grievances.

Falling just 24 hours after Israeli Independence Day, Nakba Day is held to commemorate the exodus of Palestinians from what is now Israel during the Arab-Israeli War. While they were out there, Alice and Dan took these photographs. They also made a short film – watch them dodge rubber bullets and jets of stink water here.
