Miami Music Week--colloquially known as the annual meeting of the EDM squads--is right around the corner. Either you're celebrating in a neon tutu drinking poolside martinis, trading kandi with Steve Aoki lookalikes, or… not doing any of that. Here's how to avoid that unforgivable last scenario: come to our week of parties at Basement Miami, a 6,300 square foot party palace complete with an LED bowling alley, candlelit ice skating rink, and hostesses in psychedelic neon spandex. (They'll serve you adult slushes and White Russians--but only if you ask for "The Dude.")
On Tuesday, March 24, you'll breeze past the maitre d at the door named Gio (don't forget to say hi or he'll spank you with a paddle) for the opening party with Lee Foss and Jamie Jones. A tribute to Frankie Knuckles hosted by the iconic (and sadly closed) local club Vagabond and Knuckles' own label Def Mix will follow, with old-school house legends David Morales, Hector Romero, and Quentin Harris. Throughout the week, you'll see Art Department, Dennis Ferrer, Jimmy Edgar, Questlove, DZA and more. If you make it to the end in one piece, your prize will be a special disco, funk and soul party with surprise guests.
Basement Miami is the brainchild of Ian Schrager, co-founder of Studio 54, and the music was curated by Nicolas Matar, a DJ who also founded Cielo and Output in New York. The lighting is by the same guy behind the 2012 London Olympics and productions for Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, and The Rolling Stones. So yeah, these people know what they're doing.
"We are very excited for our first Miami Music Week at Basement. Having such a stellar lineup, it's going to be a huge week for us, with an eclectic mix of the world's very best people through our doors each night," Edition hotel's Ben Pundole told THUMP. "Miami's crowd is fun because everyone is always looking to party. The weather is warmer, people are out and about--it makes for a great environment to go dancing," added Matar.
