Canadian composer, Tim Hecker, has just announced details about a new album. Love Streams will mark his eighth solo record, as well as his debut on influential independent label, 4AD.
According to the press release, the LP is "inspired by notions of 15th century choral scores (particularly those by Josquin des Prez), transposed to an artificial intelligence-era language of digital resonance and bright synths." Hecker also adds that it is informed by notions of "liturgical aesthetics after [the Kanye West album] Yeezus" and the "transcendental voice in the age of auto-tune."
Like its two predecessors, 2013's Virgins and 2011's Ravedeath, 1972, Love Streams was recorded at Greenhouse Studios in Reykjavik, Iceland. The sessions, which took place over the course of 2014 and 2015, saw Hecker reconvene with Virgins collaborators Kara-Lis Coverdale, Canadian composer, and Grímur Helgason, clarinetist.
Regarding the album's title, Hecker claims abstractly that it is a "a riff on the ubiquity and nihilism of streaming of all forms of life."
Love Streams will see release on April 8, and is available for preorder from the 4AD store here. For those that act quickly, there are is also an exclusive transparent double LP edition limited to 500 copies.
